Susumu Ema (1910-1973), a Japanese artists who lived in Kyoto, also produced designs for Nishijin silk fabrics. Feeling the need to infuse abundant diversity into the world of dyeing and weaving design, he collected samples of textile fabrics from around the world and reproduced the designs in the form of woodblock prints that he presented in a book, 'Tozai Senshokumon' (East-West dyeing and weaving). This volume contains a full-colour collection of approximately 320 dyeing and weaving designs from Europe, Africa, the Middle and Near East and America that were introduced in Ema's book.
