Fortune may be blind, but misfortune sees us all too clearly—at least that's what the townspeople of Sant'Angelo d'Asso have come to believe, in this second novel by the author of Renato's Luck. The small Italian village, an hour south of Siena, has been hit with a spate of bad luck that includes endless rain, debilitating influenza, and bizarre deaths. But two mysterious newcomers bring with them a hot sun in December: Rosa Spina Innocenti, a sinfully beautiful woman full of incredible stories; and her grown son Emanuelle Mosè, who seems able to heal people and animals. The town is eager to believe a higher power has sent them as a blessing, until another, much darker stranger arrives.
