The Yanomami, native to Venezuela and Brazil, are believed to be descendants of those who migrated over the Bering land bridge some twenty centuries ago and have been residents of the Amazon for the past 15,000 years. Though they are the last remaining society untouched by modernisation, interference from outsiders has incontestably altered the fragile future of their people. Contextualising the plight of the Yanomami society with a narrative detailing the history of the culture, as well As Cruz's own journal entries, this prophetic and haunting portrait is made all the more hallucinatory by the knowledge that this ancient culture is on the brink of extinction.
